Sources and map data
The data used in our articles and how we handle it.
Map diagrams
The maps in our articles are our own diagrams drawn from the latitude and longitude of each point. We do not load tile images from map services. The lines join the points in order and are not the actual shape of the roads.
The positions of the points and the names of roads and intersections are checked with OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap data is© OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the ODbL.
The prefecture and municipality maps are drawn from the administrative boundary data of the National Land Numerical Information (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism).
Quoting official sources
When we quote official pages of road administrators, local governments and facilities, we make it clear that it is a quote, copy the original exactly, and list the page title, URL and the date we retrieved it at the end of the article. Source titles match the title of each page, so most of them are in Japanese. In the English version, the original Japanese quote is kept and followed by our translation.
Published data
Numbers such as traffic accident counts come from published data, and the articles say which data from which year we used. For data with terms of use, we show the source as the terms require.
Photos and videos
We only use photos and videos taken by the operator. We do not publish photos taken by others or company logos.
If you find a mistake
When we find an error in a number or quote, we fix the article and update the date it was checked.
