Where to check road information in Ehime before you leave

Road closures, construction, and traffic restrictions are published by different organizations depending on the type of road. This page gathers the official places to check for national routes, prefectural roads, city and town roads, and expressways.

Summary

  • Road information is published by whoever manages the road, so where to look differs by road type: national, prefectural, city or town, expressway.
  • Closures on nationally managed roads are collected in the Road Information Provision System of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
  • Prefectural roads are covered by the Road Maintenance and Road Construction Divisions, and city and town roads by each city's or town's pages.
  • NEXCO West Japan posts construction restrictions and night closures of expressways on separate pages.
  • Traffic restriction data is updated once a month and is stated to sometimes differ from actual conditions, so signs on site come first.

The page to check depends on the type of road

Information on closures and construction is published by whoever manages the road. The roads you can drive in Ehime Prefecture fall roughly into 4 types.

Type of road Who manages it Where to look
National routes managed directly by the national government Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (national highway offices of the Shikoku Regional Development Bureau) Road Information Provision System (道路情報提供システム)
Roads managed by the prefecture Ehime Prefecture (Road Maintenance Division and Road Construction Division) The prefecture’s road information pages
City and town roads Each city or town The pages of the city or town
Expressways NEXCO West Japan and others NEXCO West Japan’s traffic information

Even on the way to one destination, the manager of the road changes along the way. On a day when you drive a long distance, checking for each type of road you will use leaves no gaps.

Roads managed by the national government: the Road Information Provision System

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism publishes closures and other information for roads managed by the national government in the “Road Information Provision System” (道路情報提供システム). The page of the Shikoku Regional Development Bureau says that it has moved to the nationwide version.

四国地方整備局道路情報提供システムは、新システム:道路情報提供システム(全国版)に移行しました。

Translation: “The Shikoku Regional Development Bureau Road Information Provision System has moved to the new system: the Road Information Provision System (nationwide version).”

When you look up roads in Shikoku, too, you use the nationwide version page it has moved to.

Schedules of the construction work itself are also published by each office. The Matsuyama River and National Highway Office has a construction calendar on its page about efforts to reduce road works.

You can find out which office manages which road in the Shikoku Regional Development Bureau’s “List of road management contacts” (道路管理担当窓口一覧).

Ehime Prefecture’s roads: the Road Maintenance Division and the Road Construction Division

Ehime Prefecture gathers links to road information on the page of the Road Maintenance Division. The Road Construction Division publishes the “Ehime Road Portal Site” (愛媛の道路ポータルサイト).

City and town roads: the page of each city or town

City and town roads are published by each city or town.

  • Matsuyama: The “Traffic restrictions on city roads” (市道の通行制限) page lists the closed locations.
  • Imabari: There is a “Road information” (道路情報) page.

Some cities and towns have no list page and publish this as individual notices.

Expressways: NEXCO West Japan

NEXCO West Japan posts construction restrictions and closures in “Construction restrictions and construction closures information” (工事規制・工事通行止め情報). For night closures of expressways in Shikoku, there is a page that covers the Tokushima Expressway, Matsuyama Expressway, Imabari-Komatsu Expressway, and Kochi Expressway.

Police traffic information

The Ehime Prefectural Police publish the “Ehime Traffic Information” (えひめ交通情報) page.

Cautions when you use the data

The materials state that traffic restriction data is updated once a month and may not match the actual restrictions. When the display in an app or map service differs from the signs on site, follow the signs on site and the instructions of police officers.

We also use these for reviewing the articles on this site

At Ehime Michishirube, each route article has a set of “pages to look at when we review it.” For an article that uses expressways, it is NEXCO West Japan. For an article that drives on national routes, it is the news and opening information of the Shikoku Regional Development Bureau. We look at them when we update the article’s checked date.
