Tolls on the Shimanami Kaido (Nishiseto Expressway): Regular-Car Tolls Between ICs and ETC Discounts

Regular-car tolls between the Ehime-side ICs (Imabari, Imabari-kita, Oshima-minami, Oshima-kita, Hakata-jima and Omishima) and to the Onomichi side, read from the JB Honshi Expressway toll tables. It covers the difference between cash, ETC on weekdays and ETC on holidays, the days when the holiday discount does not apply, and the direction limits at the ICs.

Summary

  • From Imabari-kita IC to Omishima IC, a regular car pays 2,670 yen in cash, 1,540 yen with ETC on weekdays and 1,290 yen with ETC on holidays.
  • Imabari IC to Nishiseto-Onomichi IC (Onomichi side), regular car: 4,920 yen in cash, 2,950 yen with ETC on weekdays, 2,310 yen with ETC on holidays.
  • The ETC holiday rate is a weekend and holiday discount, but not in fiscal 2026 during Golden Week, Obon, Silver Week, year-end/New Year and 3-day weekends.
  • The ETC rate requires wireless driving. Entering a regular lane and paying with an ETC card does not get the ETC rate.
  • Four ICs have direction limits, and the combinations marked "-" in the toll table match those limits when read together.

The Tolls Are Numbers Read at the Crossing of a Row and a Column in the JB Honshi Expressway Toll Tables

The JB Honshi Expressway toll tables show the tolls of the Nishiseto Expressway for each vehicle class, as images and PDFs. The table is shaped like a staircase, and each combination of 2 ICs has one cell. The numbers in this article were read from the regular-car tables (3 tables: cash vehicles, ETC vehicles on weekdays and ETC vehicles on holidays), at the cell where the row and the column of the 2 ICs cross. Light vehicles etc. (軽自動車等) have separate tables, and they are in a later section.

Neither the toll table page nor the PDF tables had a note of the date they are current, such as “as of (date)”. These are numbers read when the pages and PDFs were opened on October 13, 2026. The results of the toll search were not used.

The page for the ETC rate table has a note on the holiday discount.

Translation: “※ In fiscal 2026, the holiday discount for regular cars and light vehicles etc. does not apply during Golden Week, Obon, Silver Week, the year-end and New Year period, and 3-day weekends. If a regular car or light vehicle etc. drives with ETC, the ETC rate (weekday) applies.”

Between ICs on the Ehime Side, Regular Cars Pay 240 to 2,830 Yen

Among the 6 ICs on the Ehime side (Imabari IC, Imabari-kita IC, Oshima-minami IC, Oshima-kita IC, Hakata-jima IC and Omishima IC), the combinations that have a number in the toll table are these 9. The vehicle is a regular car.

Section Cash vehicle (non-ETC) ETC vehicle (weekday) ETC vehicle (holiday)
Imabari IC – Oshima-minami IC 1,940 yen 1,050 yen 890 yen
Imabari IC – Hakata-jima IC 2,510 yen 1,450 yen 1,150 yen
Imabari IC – Omishima IC 2,830 yen 1,690 yen 1,340 yen
Imabari-kita IC – Oshima-minami IC 1,780 yen 900 yen 840 yen
Imabari-kita IC – Hakata-jima IC 2,350 yen 1,300 yen 1,100 yen
Imabari-kita IC – Omishima IC 2,670 yen 1,540 yen 1,290 yen
Oshima-kita IC – Hakata-jima IC 570 yen 400 yen 260 yen
Oshima-kita IC – Omishima IC 890 yen 640 yen 450 yen
Hakata-jima IC – Omishima IC 470 yen 400 yen 240 yen

The table has no separate columns for inbound and outbound. Each combination has one number.

The numbers for Imabari-kita IC – Omishima IC and Imabari IC – Omishima IC are the same as in the table of the article on Oyamazumi Shrine on Omishima.

Six Combinations Are “-” in the Toll Table

The 6 ICs on the Ehime side make 15 combinations in all. The 6 combinations other than the 9 above are “-” in all 3 tables (cash, ETC weekday and ETC holiday).

  • Imabari IC – Imabari-kita IC
  • Imabari IC – Oshima-kita IC
  • Imabari-kita IC – Oshima-kita IC
  • Oshima-minami IC – Oshima-kita IC
  • Oshima-minami IC – Hakata-jima IC
  • Oshima-minami IC – Omishima IC

The toll table page does not explain what “-” means. So the combinations were read together with the direction limits written on the JB Honshi Expressway page for each IC. The text of the Oshima-kita IC and Oshima-minami IC pages is as follows.

Translation: “If you are coming from the Onomichi (Honshu) side and have business on Oshima, please exit here. If you are going from Oshima toward Honshu, please enter at this IC. You cannot go toward Shikoku.”

Translation: “If you are coming from the Imabari (Shikoku) side and have business on Oshima, please exit here. If you are going from Oshima toward Shikoku, please enter at this IC. You cannot go toward Honshu.”

The Imabari-kita IC and Imabari IC pages have the following sentences.

Translation: “From Imabari-kita IC, you cannot go to Imabari IC, Kurushimakaikyo SA or the Matsuyama Expressway (Matsuyama and Takamatsu direction).”

Translation: “You cannot exit at Imabari-kita IC.”

The Imabari-kita IC page says that you can exit at Imabari-kita IC only when you come from the Honshu side of the Honshu-Shikoku roads. The sentence above from the Imabari IC page can be read as written about cars that entered at Imabari IC.

The pages of the 2 ICs also say that if you enter the Honshu-Shikoku road from there, you can go only toward Honshu. Oshima-kita IC is an exit for people coming from the Honshu side, and if you enter at Oshima-kita IC, you cannot go toward Shikoku. So the combinations of Imabari IC and Imabari-kita IC with Oshima-kita IC cannot be driven in either direction as the pages are written, and this matches the “-” in the table. Oshima-minami IC is an exit for people coming from the Shikoku side, and if you enter at Oshima-minami IC, you cannot go toward Honshu. The combinations of Oshima-kita IC, Hakata-jima IC and Omishima IC with Oshima-minami IC also cannot be driven in either direction as the pages are written, and this matches the “-” in the table. This much is the result of reading the description on each IC page together with the toll table. The toll table itself does not give the reason for the “-”.

The directions you can go from each entrance are summarized in ICs on the Shimanami Kaido and the Matsuyama Expressway Where the Direction You Can Go From the Entrance Is Fixed.

To the Onomichi Side, Regular Cars Pay 1,000 to 4,920 Yen From the Ehime-Side ICs

On the Onomichi side, the toll table has 2 exits: Mukaishima IC and Nishiseto-Onomichi IC. From the 5 ICs on the Ehime side, the regular-car tolls to these 2 are as follows (for Oshima-minami IC, both Mukaishima IC and Nishiseto-Onomichi IC are “-”).

Section Cash vehicle (non-ETC) ETC vehicle (weekday) ETC vehicle (holiday)
Imabari IC – Mukaishima IC 4,710 yen 2,770 yen 2,260 yen
Imabari IC – Nishiseto-Onomichi IC 4,920 yen 2,950 yen 2,310 yen
Imabari-kita IC – Mukaishima IC 4,550 yen 2,620 yen 2,210 yen
Imabari-kita IC – Nishiseto-Onomichi IC 4,760 yen 2,800 yen 2,260 yen
Oshima-kita IC – Mukaishima IC 2,770 yen 1,720 yen 1,370 yen
Oshima-kita IC – Nishiseto-Onomichi IC 2,980 yen 1,900 yen 1,420 yen
Hakata-jima IC – Mukaishima IC 2,350 yen 1,480 yen 1,160 yen
Hakata-jima IC – Nishiseto-Onomichi IC 2,560 yen 1,660 yen 1,210 yen
Omishima IC – Mukaishima IC 1,990 yen 1,240 yen 1,000 yen
Omishima IC – Nishiseto-Onomichi IC 2,200 yen 1,420 yen 1,050 yen

The “Toll Information” page says this about Nishiseto-Onomichi IC.

Translation: “When you use Nishiseto-Onomichi IC, there is no toll gate at Nishiseto-Onomichi IC, so the ETC rate and other rates are decided by the time of passing the Mukaishima toll gate.”

ETC Rates Apply to Cars Driving With Wireless ETC, in 2 Kinds: Weekday and Holiday

The JB Honshi Expressway “Toll Information” page describes the ETC rate and the cash rate like this.

Translation: “The toll is divided into the ETC vehicle rate and the cash vehicle (non-ETC vehicle) rate. The ETC vehicle rate differs between weekdays and holidays.”

The definitions of weekdays and holidays are in the 2 places below.

Translation: “It applies to vehicles driven wirelessly using the ETC system on weekdays (Monday to Friday, excluding national holidays).”

Translation: “It applies to regular cars and light vehicles etc. driven wirelessly using the ETC system on Saturdays, Sundays and national holidays.”

Which one applies is decided by the time you pass the toll gate.

Translation: “It is decided by the time of passing the entrance or exit toll gate of the Honshu-Shikoku road (including the main-line toll gate; the same below).”

For the cash rate, the page says this.

Translation: “It applies to all vehicle types, all year, regardless of the day of the week or the time.”

Translation: “You can pay with cash, a credit card or an ETC card.”

The condition for the ETC rate is also on the same page.

Translation: “Entering from a regular lane and just paying with an ETC card does not get the ETC rate or other such rates.”

The “ETC-only toll gates” that JB Honshi Expressway lists are 2: Higashiura toll gate on the E28 Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway and Mizushima toll gate on the E30 Seto-Chuo Expressway. The toll gates of the E76 Nishiseto Expressway are not in this list.

The Days When the Holiday Discount Does Not Apply Are Set in the Fiscal 2026 Calendar

The “Notice of Holiday Discount Application Days in Fiscal 2026,” jointly issued by East Nippon, Central Nippon and West Nippon Expressway, JB Honshi Expressway and Miyagi Prefecture Road Public Corporation, says this.

Besides the Holiday Discount, There Are Discounts Such as the Weekday Morning and Evening Discount. No Late-Night Discount Is Listed

The “Toll Discounts” section of the “Toll Information” page lists 4: the ETC Mileage Service, the weekday morning and evening discount, the heavy-user and frequent-user discount, and the discount for people with disabilities. A late-night discount was not found on this page or on the toll table page.

The weekday morning and evening discount is described like this.

Translation: “For regular cars and light vehicles etc. that pass a toll gate of the Honshu-Shikoku roads by the ETC system during weekday morning and evening hours (6:00–9:00 and 17:00–20:00), a discount-equivalent amount (refund amount) is set according to the number of discount-eligible uses in the month, and it is refunded afterward as free driving.”

Translation: “(Note) To use the weekday morning and evening discount, advance registration for the ETC Mileage Service is required.”

The page says that if both the holiday discount and the weekday morning and evening discount apply, the holiday discount is applied. Because this is a discount that needs advance registration, this article does not cover how to use it for a single trip.

What Could Not Be Checked

  • A note of the date the toll table is current, such as “as of (date)”. It was not found on the table page or in the PDFs.
  • A sentence explaining what “-” means in the toll table. The result of reading the descriptions on the IC pages together with the table is written in the section above.
  • How ETC cards and ETC on-board units that come with rental cars are handled. This article covers only the toll information of JB Honshi Expressway. When renting a car, check the rental car company’s guidance.
