English information for visitors to Ehime: official English pages, English brochures, and tourist information centers for each destination

For the 27 destinations in this site's route articles, we looked for English pages on official sites, English brochures, and English audio guides. The prefecture's English tourism site, the JNTO English pages, and the foreign-language support of tourist information centers are also listed.

Summary

  • Of the 27 destinations, 21 have an introduction page on the English version of Iyokan Net (Visit Ehime Japan).
  • We found official English pages (facility, tourism group, or local government) for 11 places, such as Matsuyama Castle, Dogo Onsen, and Railway History Park.
  • Imabari Castle, Itoyama Park, Tobe-yaki Traditional Industry Hall, Iwagi Kyodokan: no dedicated English page on official sites or Iyokan Net English version.
  • English brochures were found for Matsuyama Castle, Tobe Zoo, Shikoku Karst, and Kamijima (booklets on the whole town). We could not find English audio guides.
  • In the JNTO list of information centers, 9 places, including Dogo, JR Matsuyama Station, and Imabari, show Full-Time in the English field.

We checked English information for 27 destinations on October 14, 2026

The route articles on this site cover 27 destinations. So that visitors from overseas can look for English information before they leave, we checked the official site of each destination for English pages, English brochures, and English audio guides. For destinations whose official site has no English page, we also looked in the prefecture’s English tourism site and the English pages of the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO).

The method was: look for an English switch on the top page of each official site, then look for the destination’s name in the list of the prefecture’s English tourism site. Destinations we did not check are marked as such in the tables. Things we searched for and could not find are written as “could not find” in the tables.

The English version of the prefecture’s tourism site, and the JNTO English pages

The top page of Iyokan Net, the official tourism site of Ehime Prefecture, has switches for English, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, and Korean. The English switch leads to “Visit Ehime Japan” (https://www.visitehimejapan.com/en). The bottom of the Visit Ehime Japan pages says “© Ehime Prefecture”.

“Things to Do” on this site has an English introduction page for each sightseeing spot. “Iyokan Net English version” in the tables of this article means these pages. They are introduction pages written by the prefecture’s tourism site, not by the facility’s own site.

The “Brochures” page has this English explanation.

Helpful maps and pamphlets on specific areas can be found and downloaded here to have handy on your journey.

There are PDFs for these cities and towns: Matsuyama City, Iyo City, Kumakogen Town, Tobe Town, Imabari City, Niihama City, kamijima Town, Uwajima City, Yawatahama City, Ozu City, and Uchiko Town. There are also Discover Ehime and guides to ramen shops and restaurants in Matsuyama (A Guide to Late Night Ramen, Great places to dine in Matsuyama). The Kumakogen Town PDF has the heading “SHIKOKU KARST ACCESS GUIDE” and gives distances and travel times in English from Matsuyama City, Uchiko Town, Seiyo City, and Kochi City.

The “Useful Information” page has this English sentence about tourist information centers.

Many places will have English-speaking staff who will try to assist in any way they can, and there are often materials available in multiple languages.

The same page lists the “Japan Visitor Hotline” (050-3816-2787) as a contact for accidents and emergencies. It supports English, Chinese, and Korean, and is a 24-hour phone line for tourist questions and for advice after an accident. Contacts that include 110 and 119 are collected in What to do after an accident, breakdown, or road problem in Ehime: who to call and what to tell them.

The JNTO English pages (Travel Japan) also have an Ehime page. We confirmed that there are English introduction pages for Matsuyama Castle, Dogo Onsen, Shikoku Karst, Uchiko, Ozu, and Mt. Ishizuchi.

List by destination

How to read the tables:

  • “English pages” lists first the English pages on the official sites of facilities, tourism groups, or local governments, and then the Iyokan Net English version and JNTO pages.
  • “English audio guides, etc.” is what the official pages say about English brochures, English audio guides, and English signs. We could not find a page that mentions an English audio guide for any destination.
  • The 27 destinations are counted as one destination per route article. The destination of the Tobe Town article is the Tobe-yaki Traditional Industry Hall. Tobe Zoo, which the same article also covers, is in the table, but it is not counted in the 27.
  • The 11 destinations with official English pages are Matsuyama Castle, Dogo Onsen, Omogo Gorge, Nakajima, Gogoshima, the Towel Museum, Minetopia Besshi (the Niihama City tourism site), the Railway History Park, Ozu Castle and Garyu Sanso (Garyu Sanso only), the Uchiko townscape, and the Unomachi townscape. The Ishizuchi Ropeway is not included: there is an English page on the mountain, but it is not a page on the ropeway. Switches that lead to Google Translate are not included either.

How to use this before you leave

  1. Read the road and parking in the destination’s article (the link in the left column of the tables), and check opening days and fees on the English page in the second column.
  2. Some English pages lead to Japanese pages or to automatic translation. The ropeway and lift operation information of Matsuyama Castle is a link marked “(Machine Translated with Google)”, and the English switches of Tobe Town, the Sadamisaki Peninsula, and the Uwajima tourist guide lead to Google Translate.
  3. For a destination where we could not find an English page, see the location and outline on its Iyokan Net English version page, and check opening hours and closing days on the facility’s Japanese official page.
  4. Driving licenses and road rules are collected in How to drive a rental car in Ehime as a visitor from overseas and Japanese road rules for visitors driving in Japan for the first time.
